Everyone has heard of the famous Transformers toys by Hasbro. These shape shifting pieces of plastic had us all captivated and amazed at how a car can shift into a human-shaped robot. Or how a helicopter can transform into a prehistoric raptor. There are even such models that transform from animal to robot! The toys show (as their tagline states) that there is “more than meets the eye” when it comes to these awesome toys!
The brand has gone on to influence the production of many kids cartoons, comic books and even the creation of 4 major hollywood movies directed by Michael Bay. A fifth movie is scheduled for a 2017 release. Lots of explosions and lots of computer effects make the movies a must watch for any action movie fan.
The Transformers brand has gone on to influence many an engineer/artist/animator to come up with their own take on robots that change into something completely different from their original shape. One such example is Hetain Patel. A 33 year old artist who has hosted his exhibitions all over the UK and around the world. He was inspired to create Fiesta Transformer by memories of his first car, a 1988 Ford Fiesta, and by the Transformers story of a war between robots that can turn into vehicles and other objects. Check out this amazing time lapse of his piece of mechanical art.
